Lock the doors. And hope they don't have blasters.
I like movies. I like movies a lot. I have a huge DVD collection. Over 1500 discs, 2/3 of which are movies. I like to tell people I compete with Blockbuster. I like all kinds of movies. Action, drama, adventure, comedy, science fiction, animation; just put it on the screen and I am sure to watch.
My favorite without a doubt is the Star Wars series. I have been a fan since the first time I saw the original movie the second day it came out. And by original, I mean when it was called Star Wars, not A New Hope. Now, despite my love of all things Star Wars, I was not overly impressed with Episode 3. Yes, I liked Episode 1 and 2 better. I felt there were too many things wrong with Episode 3. I am sure someone else already has a website dedicated to that. No need for my rant and rave here.
Now if there was one movie that I had to recommend that everyone should see, it's Dogma. After the first 5 minute I was convinced this was one of the best movies, ever. Even if you don't think it's funny, even if you don't like the actors, even if you think the movie is too full of obscene language, I think watching it at least once will give you a much better appreciation and understanding of life.
And while on the subject of recommendations, you should also see Kevin Smith's other films, Clerks, Mallrats, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Also, I highly recommend Trey Parker and Matt Stone's works, all of them; Orgazmo, Basketball, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, and Team American World Police. Notice: You must have a great sense of humor and not be easily offended. In fact, it's best just to turn off your sensitivity altogether.
I'm a big fan of science fiction, and some of my favorites have been Contact and The Abyss. Scold me and chastise me all you want, but yes, I liked them. If you didn't, you probably can't grasp what real science fiction is about. Or you over analyzed it. Or... you know what? Who cares if you didn't like it. I did and that's all that matters to me.
In the genre of science fiction fantasy, there have been many. Serenity was a great movie. Thank you, Joss Whedon. I have also seen every Star Trek movie, in some cases painfully. Lord of the Rings was outstanding, even if they took a lot of liberties with the story. Thank you, Steve Jackson. I'd like to thank United Artists for James Bond movies. I have also enjoyed the Harry Potter movies as well, especially Sorcerer's Stone and Goblet of Fire. In fact, I have never seen a movie that so closely followed the book as in Sorcerer's Stone.
I like action movies too. I'm a bit of an Arnold fan. And ever since his introduction in Lethal Weapon 4, I try to go see every Jet Li movie. Jackie Chan is right up there as well.
Also because of my desire to be a pirate, I can not emphasize enough how fantastic the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have been. Johnny Depp Has finally found his true calling, arrr.
I like all kinds of animation. My favorite Disney animated movie is still The Little Mermaid, but I have a fairly decent number of Disney films in my collection. In the new field of computer animation, Pixar holds the throne with The Incredibles, but other favorites do include Shrek, Ice Age and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. In fact, in computer animated movies, it's easier to tell you which movies I haven't really liked. And let's not forget anime. Akira is still my favorite all time anime movie. The more recent translation is a lot better than the original, but the bottom line is, the movie doesn't do the story justice. Even so, Akira was a masterpiece on so many other levels that it makes up for a still somewhat confusing story line.
Finally, I have a preoccupation with super hero movies, specifically those based on comic book characters. I thought Batman Begins was fantastic. Easily the best Batman movie done to date. I already mentioned The Incredibles before. Another favorite of mine is Mystery Men, mainly because of my work on Team Rainbow Super Force, as well as additional stories I wrote of similar nature.
I have also had a couple of on-screen performances. Nothing major. Okay it was one college film, and I was an extra. But the director made sure I was in one particulr scene becuase of my performce. Furthermore, I am NOT admitting to having any involvement with Masked Men Productions.
